Tricity Trinity Travel Log

9.02.93 Trinity Site, New Mexico. Trinity Site is open only two days a year, yet people journey to this depression in the sand that marks the detonation of the first atomic bomb. Vendors selling books and T-shirts line the chain link fence that surrounds the site. A sign warns to remove any cosmetics before entering.

5.22.94 Hanford Nuclear Reservation, Washington. The people of Hanford are proud of their contribution to the ending of World War II through the production of the plutonium used in the second atomic bomb. After 50 years of defense work, Hanford has another war to wage-the cleanup of 500,000 cubic yards of radioactive waste.
